he Teacher Allocation Model provides the guidelines the Department of Education follows to determine the number of teaching units required to meet the needs of the province’s Kindergarten to Grade 12 (K-12) educational system. The model determines the number of administrators, classroom teachers, Instructional Resource Teachers (IRTs), and other specialists.

The mandate of the Teacher Allocation Review Committee will be to undertake a review of the Teacher Allocation Model. The Committee will review the current resources allocated to the K-12 system; consult with key stakeholders (e.g., parents, students, and teachers, etc.); recommend allocations of resources to the K-12 system (classroom teachers, specialist teachers and school administrators, etc.); recommend class sizes for K-12 that considers small schools, multi-grades/combined grades, and French Immersion; consider innovative approaches to delivery of education services; and recommend ways to meet unexpected or emerging needs each school year.
