The services provided by the province’s agencies, boards, and commissions (ABCs) are among the most important in Newfoundland and Labrador. ABCs provide valued leadership and advice in areas ranging from health care to housing to human rights.

The Independent Appointments Commission (IAC) is an independent body established by the Government of Newfoundland and Labrador to provide merit-based recommendations for appointments to approximately 30 entities scheduled to the IAC Act (Tier 1 entities).  The Public Service Commission (PSC), in addition to providing support to the IAC, also issues merit-based recommendations to a further 130 ABCs (Tier 2 entities).

The merit-based appointment process is open and accessible and ensures the people appointed have the necessary qualifications and are reflective of the population they serve. The IAC is committed to delivering an inclusive process by proactively identifying and removing barriers to participation.  If there is an accommodation or adjustment that may help meet your needs, please contact  contact@iacnl.ca, 709-729-7356 or toll free at 1-855-330-5810 (press option ‘2’).  Video Relay Service (VRS) calls are welcomed. Accommodation information will be kept confidential.

We encourage you to explore this webpage, learn more about our Commission, the ABCs, the appointments process, and, most importantly, the opportunities for you to play an active role in your province.
