On December, 23, 2019, the Lieutenant-Governor appointed Christopher Pike as a full-time commissioner to the Board of Commissioners of Public Utilities, effective January 13, 2020, for a ten-year term.
The Board operates as an independent, quasi-judicial tribunal constituted under section 6 of the Public Utilities Act.
The Board has mandated responsibilities as set out in the following legislation:

- Automobile Insurance Act
- Insurance Companies Act
- Petroleum Products Act
- Motor Carrier Act
- Expropriation Act
- Public Utilities Acquisition of Lands Act
